Diriamba's Story
At the request of two Nicaraguan priests, MSC planted a seed in Managua in 2000 called Hogar Belen. Hogar Belen now cares for 19 children with disabilities.
In 2006 Mustard Seed Communities Nicaragua purchased a plot of land to expand Hogar Belen. Most of the children that we care for are abandoned by their parents or are given up to the state. They still require care and love. MSC has provided a home for these children both here in Diriamba and in Managua. When construction is completed, the Home will provide loving care, education and spiritual care for 60 residents. Currently there are 12 residents living at Hogar Belen - Diriamba.
Our plans for the Diriamba Children's Home also include cultivation of vegetables and fruits for in-house consumption and for sale on the domestic market. We will also be raising chickens for egg production, raising livestock for meat and establishing a thrift shop for the sale of household items. These initiatives will aid the self-sustainability of the Hogar Belen homes.

- Mustard Seed Communities is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1978 by Msgr. Gregory Ramkissoon. One tiny mustard seed sown over thirty years ago in the community of Mona Commons, St. Andrew, Jamaica has grown into a large and beautiful plant providing food, shelter and respite for over 400 children with HIV/AIDS and children with mental and physical disabilities.
