Opening and Dedication of Diriamba

We have all arrived safely in Nicaragua... Diriamba is absolutely wonderful. Thanks to the ladies we went to sleep around 3AM and rose at 630AM!

This morning and afternoon we are in Managua at the original home doing some much needed painting. Of course immediately upon arrival we were overcome with the emotions of seeing old friends and the beautiful children. So many familiar faces... Jose Emanuel, Becker, Omar, Kevin, Tatiana, Elvira... The boys and girls look like a million dollars. Smiles and Laughs were everywhere.

Diriamba's Story

At the request of two Nicaraguan priests, MSC planted a seed in Managua in 2000 called Hogar Belen. Hogar Belen now cares for 19 children with disabilities.

In 2006 Mustard Seed Communities Nicaragua purchased a plot of land to expand Hogar Belen. Most of the children that we care for are abandoned by their parents or are given up to the state. They still require care and love. MSC has provided a home for these children both here in Diriamba and in Managua. When construction is completed, the Home will provide loving care, education and spiritual care for 60 residents. Currently there are 12 residents living at Hogar Belen - Diriamba.

Our plans for the Diriamba Children's Home also include cultivation of vegetables and fruits for in-house consumption and for sale on the domestic market. We will also be raising chickens for egg production, raising livestock for meat and establishing a thrift shop for the sale of household items. These initiatives will aid the self-sustainability of the Hogar Belen homes.
